Restorative Dentistry » Dental Implants

Dental implants are an ideal option for many individuals who have lost teeth or who have tooth decay requiring the removal of an existing tooth. This is a proven, effective and safe manner for improving your smile and restoring a natural appearance. More so, it is permanent.

What Are Dental Implants?

Implants are designed to create a permanent structure in your mouth that looks and acts just like a traditional tooth. They are anchored into place with a titanium rod. This rod goes into the jawbone to provide strength. It can support one or more crowns or dentures. Each rod can provide enough support for two artificial teeth.

Are Dental Implants Right for You?

It is up to your dentist to determine if your condition is ideal for dental implants, but for many, it can be life changing. You will need to have jawbone available or an area where it can be harvested. This procedure can work for individuals such as:

  • Those with missing teeth
  • Those with teeth that are decayed and requiring removal
  • Those with teeth that are seriously chipped, such as from an accident, which require removal
  • Those with dentures who want a more permanent solution

What Can You Expect from Treatment?

Dental implants are done as a form of dental surgery. You will be under local anaesthetic during it and you will not feel pain. You will likely have an aching feeling once the procedure is over.

In order for this procedure to work, your dentist will need to bond the implant to the jawbone. This process takes time. It can take as long as three to six months in some cases. You will have a temporary tooth in place during this time. Once your jawbone heals after the insertion of the rod, a permanent artificial tooth is made and put into place.

How Long Will It Last?

Most dental implants last between 15 and 20 years. Nearly all procedures are successful. If there is a problem, it is easily removed and the location can then heal. Another implant can be inserted later.

To find out if dental implants are right for you, the first step is to meet with our dental team for a consultation. We will take x-rays to determine the health of the underlying jawbone and then help you to tackle any type of dental health issues you have, such as gum concerns. We can then setup a plan to get you started in replacing your broken or missing teeth for good. You will love the smile you get as a result.
