Cosmetic Dentistry » White Fillings

If the decay is not too serious, our cosmetic dentist will remove all the decay and restore the tooth with a white (tooth coloured) filling.

We can safely replace silver amalgam fillings with white tooth coloured fillings.

Dental decay happens when the enamel and dentine of a tooth become softened by acid attack, producing a cavity (hole).

More about decay detection in our Preventive Dentistry section.

White Fillings in Essex

White fillings enable our Essex dentists to restore decayed or broke teeth invisibly to produce a beautiful smile. They are suitable for using on both front and most back teeth. Elimination of unsightly areas of decay or discolouration will enhance your confidence to smile

Apart from cosmetic benefit of white fillings, an average white filling is often smaller in size than a comparable silver filling. Because of this, our essex dentists would likely to recommend the palcement of a white filling over a silver filling in order to conserve as much natural tooth structure as possible.

One other benefit of white fillings is that they usually create less post treatment thermal sensitivity. Silver fillings are based in metal and therefore is an efficient thermal conductor whereas white fillings are plastic and therefore a poor thermal conductor. This means that a strong sensitivity to hot and cold is not usually a problem with white fillings.
